The Feasts of Spring and Summer

The first of Jewish Feast days began on Nisan 14 called Passover. Found in Exodus 12:1-14 The Passover was fulfilled by Jesus Christ in that he perfectly fulfilled the requirements of the Passover Lamb, becoming the ‘…. Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.’ Revelation 13:8

On the night before He was crucified, He celebrated the second of the Jewish Feast Days, found in Exodus 12:15-18 the Feast of Unleavened bread which he established as an ordinance for the Church: Matthew 26:26; 27&28 ‘….Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins’ Jesus gave His life  for us!

The third Jewish Feast Day is known as the Feast of Firstfruits.  Most interesting Jesus fulfilled this Feast Day on Resurrection Sunday: Scripture tells us how:   ‘And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.’ Matthew 27:52&53 Then we read:  ‘Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.’  Ephesians 4:8 Jesus took the firstfruits with Him to observe His atonement at the Throne of God! Hebrews 9:12

The Next Jewish Feast Day is Pentecost.  Interestingly enough Pentecost is not date specific, that is to say there is no calendar date for this event.  It was observed by simply counting fifty days from the day of Passover.  Pentecost was the day of the celebration of the Jews of the first sounding of the Trump of God when they were called to Mount Sinai whereby they received the Word of God {the Law}.  Exodus  19:16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.’

For the Church, it was the Release of the Spirit of Grace at the same time the Trumpet was sounding: Acts 2:1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.’

There remains a ‘Last Trump’ to sound and I believe it will sound on the day the Church is called home: ‘Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.’  I Corinthians 15:51&52 Also 1 Thessalonians 4:16 &17For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.’

Could it be this Pentecost?!!!! Sunday June 4? I am not a predictor, just a Watcher!

Keep Looking up! Jesus is Coming soon!

TAX TIME DELAYED!

The Tax man cometh!  Because of Good Friday Holiday the government pushed the tax due day from April 15 to April 18, that is tomorrow!  I sent in my first quarter estimated taxes Saturday.  I filed my taxes back in March.  Paying taxes is not a new thing.  It was a point of contention even in Jesus’ day: Matthew 17:24-27And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.’

But Jesus settled that issue forever.  ‘Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them’ So followers of Jesus pay their taxes!  But sometimes it is sure a point of contention!

There is coming a time when the entire world will be taxed: Much like the one in Luke 2 where the Caesar of Rome, Augustus, enrolled all the world in order to tax them.  The Prophecy concerning this coming taxation is found: Daniel 11:20&21Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle. And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.’

This vile person is known to us as ‘the man of sinII Thessalonians 2:3&4Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.’ Who will fulfill the words of Daniel in his prophecy.  It seems to me that we are fast approaching the appointed time!

This time of the year has long been held by the Israeli calendar to be of great prophetic significance: From the Passover to Pentecost…a fifty day period of great events to both Jew and Christian alike.  Next week I will share with you specific Holy Days and their importance to us.  Until then:

Come Celebrate Jesus!

The greatest day on the calendar comes this Sunday.  Resurrection Celebration 2017 is April 16. It was on that morning before sunrise, Jesus rose from the dead!

On Thursday evening while the Jewish priests had their Passover meal, Jesus’ dead body, that they crucified, {at the same time the Passover Lamb was being sacrificed} was laying in state in the tomb awaiting His Spirit to come back: ‘For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:’ I Peter 3:18 While His body was there in the tomb, Jesus went to hell declaring His Victory over death and Hell:  ‘By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;’   I Peter 3:19  This power was displayed by those whom He raised from the dead: ‘And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.’ Matthew 27:52&53

When Jesus arose on the third day {Sunday morning} He became the victor over death, the grave and Hell: ‘I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.’ Revelation 1:18

We serve a risen savior!  He’s in the world today; I know that He is living…whatever men may say.  I know that He is leading in all the stormy blast…The Day of His appearing shall come at last!

He lives!! He Lives!  Christ Jesus lives today!  He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way!  You ask me how I know He lives?  He lives within my heart!

We celebrate the Resurrection just once a year, but it is a fact of life every day!  ‘For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.’ Acts 17:28 If we would remember that, it would change the way we live from day to day.  Paul said: ‘I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.’  I Corinthians 15:31 By this declaring that his joy and seeming carefree living was found in the fact that every day he surrendered his wants to God’s leading and gave up his rights in order to carry the cross of Christ….  Would to God that I could attain that heart for the Gospel!

Come this Sunday to celebrate the resurrection with us!

Springtime and Resurrection

When I stepped outside this morning I could tell that spring had finally arrived.  The warm muggy atmosphere is a harbinger of the hot summer days that will arrive way too soon to suit me, but it is the cycle that makes me love Oklahoma weather and keeps me excited: planting the spring garden, then the summer activities of fishing and water sports.  Then before you know it, the days are so hot and humid you begin to look forward to the fall temperatures.

I thought about the season and the life that God has given me.  Three of our sons were born within a week of this day: Mickey, March 28, 1970; Daniel, April 4, 1984 and Benjamin, March 27, 1989.  Tomorrow is Daniel’s birthday…and he has taken the week to go rest and reflect with his family.  I hope he has a blessed birthday…he has certainly blessed us, his family.

For now, I am thankful for the season and Resurrection Sunday.  I praise God for His Son and the work He did on the cross for me {us}.  I cannot imagine, nor do I want to imagine what life would be like without Him and His Church!   ‘Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.’ Acts 20:28

People all over the area are missing the single most blessed experience there is in the world.  That is to worship God in the Spirit and Truth: ‘But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.     God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.’

John 4:23-24

Resurrection Sunday is April 16 this year:   To many the ‘Easter’ season is an event that incorporates pagan rites such as Easter bunnies and Easter eggs that portray the idea of resurrection and fertility.  Should we take part in pagan worship as did the Israelites of old?  Knowing it or not they are invoking the fertility gods of old such as Diana of the Ephesians and Ishtar of Babylon! Are God’s people held accountable for celebrating such practices??  Does being ignorant of such activities excuse our being involved in them?  God have mercy on us: Ezekiel 8:6He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.’

If you will take time to read this account in Ezekiel 8:1-18 you will find that our God is a jealous God and He will not allow this pagan worship to continue without His judgment.  God help us to reject the world’s way of worship!

And that is the bottom line.

Spring Cleaning

One of my favorite movies is ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ a factual movie of the Jews life and tradition in the year 1905 located in the Ukrainian village of Anatevka.  It was released in 1971 but I did not see it until 1980 on a VCR tape.  It has appealed to me because of the simplicity of life, yet the complexity of living it!  There are many scenes that grip my heart and I suppose that is the reason I have watched it so many times.  One of those scenes has Motel the tailor with his family loaded up leaving their home because of persecution asking the question: ‘Wouldn’t this be a good time for Messiah to come?’

Another other scene I have always marveled at is Golda, Tevye’s wife cleaning and sweeping the empty house that they had stolen from them by the Russian government.  The family is waiting for her to finish and she would not leave until the house was in order.

According to Exodus this scene has validity: Exodus 12:19   ‘Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.’ Although they were leaving Egypt forever, God commanded that their houses be clean of any leaven!  That is anything that would grow on its own.  Any sort of moisture with dirt can actually produce mold or mildew which is a form of leaven.  The people of Israel were commanded to remove any sort of leaven from their homes before the Passover.

This is where we get the idea of spring cleaning: We should always keep our home clean of anything that shouldn’t be there, but once a year, in the spring, when the light is better and we take a fresh look at where we live, we should pay special attention to those hidden places that seem to grow things…hence spring cleaning!  I found a great web page with some thought provoking pictures and a short video on how to clean out your dryer vent here: http://www.realtor.com/advice/home-improvement/household-items-never-clean-but-should/  Just copy and paste this in your browser and you will get some really good tips on spring cleaning!

Speaking of which: Saturday from 9:00 am to noon we will engage in some spring cleaning around the church and hope you will look in Todd’s article at the places you can help, bring your tools of expertise and come help us this Saturday!  It is God’s House….yet we get to use it, why not come help clean it up with us?

Jesus: Our Mediator; Our Advocate

As I was preparing for Sunday morning’s message I was taken by a new understanding of the Ministry of Jesus Christ: I have understood for a long time that ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinnersI Timothy 1:15 but once we are saved, His ministry to and for us forever changed!  For you see, when you turn your heart to Him in repentance, His work of Salvation is committed to you and He will keep you to the end: In His prayer to His Father He said: ‘I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.’   John 17:9&10

HERE JESUS IS CHANGED FOR US:

FROM A MEDIATOR: {mes-ee’-tace}

(middle man, go between) I Timothy 2:1-5 for MEN {anthropos} mankind.

TO AN ADVOCATE: {parakletos}

One called to the side of another for help or (counsel) ‘My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.’ I John 2:1&2

AS HIGH PRIEST JESUS STANDS AS:

  1. MEDIATOR: for the lost who come

to Him for salvation: But as an:

  1. ADVOCATE: for the saved who need constant help in time of need: ‘Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.’ Hebrews 7:25    You see, once you have committed your life to Jesus, He commits his life to you and forever stands between you and the things that would take you away…always interceding with our best interest in mind.

Read these words to the song:

                No one ever cared for me like Jesus

I would love to tell you what I think of Jesus,
Since I found in Him a friend so strong and true;
I would tell you how He changed my life completely,
He did something that no other friend could do.
Refrain: No one ever cared for me like Jesus,
There’s no other friend so kind as He;
No one else could take the sin and darkness from me,
O how much He cared for me.
All my life was full of sin when Jesus found me,
All my heart was full of misery and woe;
Jesus placed His strong and loving arms about me,
And He led me in the way I ought to go.
Refrain:
Ev’ry day He comes to me with new assurance,
More and more I understand His words of love;
But I’ll never know just why He came to save me,
Till some day I see His blessed face above.
Refrain: No one ever cared for me like Jesus,
There’s no other friend so kind as He;
No one else could take the sin and darkness from me,
O how much He cared for me.

And indeed He does!  Praise His Holy Name!

Things on My Mind

Friday Ken Warren and I went ‘shopping’ for a few items to furnish the parsonage to make it a ‘ministry house’ for special times i.e. when we have guest preachers, missionaries, and occasionally for crisis times in member’s lives when they need a short stay in a furnished ‘home’.

We need a ladies touch to help us clean up and prepare for ‘moving in’ of furniture and supplies for living.  If you would call the church office: 918-342-6997 and tell Cindy you are able to help we need your input in making our ministry house a home.  When we have a general time that is best for those who will volunteer we will set a day for moving into place all that it takes to make our ‘ministry house’ a ‘ministry home’ I hope you will be involved.

I can’t remember a stranger weather pattern than what we have experienced the past several years…I am confident that the seasons will continue: Genesis 8:22   ‘While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.’  But am interested in the lack of snow…and might add that cold and heat seems to be too close together in these days!  It is supposed to reach the high 70’s this week… in February!

Now I know I am getting older and my memory isn’t exactly as it used to be, but I remember back in my ‘paperboy’ days that February was simply the coldest month of the year!  And I don’t ever remember thinking of going fishing….NOT IN FEBRUARY!  But as I think of my afternoon and how it is to be spent, I can’t help but consider going fishing for awhile… Hmmm…

Sunday’s services blessed my soul!  It was a great day of worship, praise, preaching and instruction.  If you missed the Discipleship Training class video on the problem of discipleship/evangelism, I would be glad to share the video with you.  Let Cindy know and we will have it ready for you.  These days are crisis days for reaching people for Christ.  How much time we have may depend upon how long we have to serve Him without opposition or could depend on His imminent return: Titus 2:11-13For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;’

And that is what demands our attention!  Looking for Him and hoping to see you serving Him!

Ordained of God

I recorded the entire day’s activities on Fox News Friday as we watched our new President sworn into office.  There was a lot of pomp and ceremony, but in the end it was a simple inauguration {swearing in} service.

What is interesting to me is that it is for a man to serve his country for four years…then, even if he wins another four years, it must be done all over again.

This coming Sunday evening during our 6:00 p.m. service you can have a ‘front seat’ to observe the Ordination {to invest; clothe or adorn} service of Daniel Keely.  This ordination will not be for four years, but will last throughout his lifetime.

We will come together as a church to act upon a recommendation by the ordination council that has been invited, and observe as they invest upon Daniel the ‘laying on of hands’ that is spoken of in:

I Timothy 4:14Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.’ Now some do not understand the importance of this act…but it is important just the same.  It sets Daniel apart as one of the ‘Ordained’ pastors that will carry on the Gospel to another generation.  You won’t want to miss this very special service!

I was ordained December 15, 1974 by a group of Pastors and Deacons that came together for the same purpose;  Most of those men who ‘laid hands’ on me are now dead and the others have retired from the Gospel ministry.  I have carried the Gospel message now as an ordained minister for 42 years, having preached since April, 1972 {45 years}.  I had no idea where God would carry Carolyn and me as we were surrendered to His will and purpose, but trusted Him with our lives.

He has brought us to this Church where we have now invested the past nineteen years of our lives.  What a JourneyWhat a life!

I am excited for Daniel, Nora and their children and the Churches that they will invest their lives in and for those Churches that will call them to serve.  It is a great calling, a great life and a wonderful journey…

Here is my tribute to Daniel and all the young men that will follow in the steps of God’s men through the ages who responded to His Call for their lives and have remained faithful: II Timothy 4:1-5I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.’

In Jesus’ Name….Amen!

A Weather Report

While having my coffee after finishing my daily Bible reading this morning, I turned on the weather to see what the week would hold…well, it is winter and we have had really cold days and a skiff of snow a week or so ago.  So they are talking about ice and snow this coming weekend.  Now that is not unusual for this time of year, but what makes it interesting is that it is possible that we will have a chance of weather that would make traveling to the meeting of the Church Sunday a possible hazard.

Over the years I have held the view that most people go wherever they want to go, regardless of the road conditions or weather in general, yet there are others who being cautious do pay attention and take precautions in times of inclement weather.

As pastor I have always said: ‘If I can make it to the church buildings whoever shows up will make the two or more Jesus spoke of and we would have services’: Matthew 18:20 ‘For where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there am I in the midst of them.’  So if you feel comfortable in traveling on the roads; if I can make it I will be there….yet there have been a few times when it was impossible because of ice and snow drifts that closed down the roads and blocked the entrance.

So, if you wonder if we are going to ‘dismiss the services’ feel free to call and ask…my cell phone is: 918-519-1204 and I can probably tell you what is up!

I will not ask nor expect anyone to jeopardize their health or well being to prove their commitment to the Lord or His Church!  For those of us who have reached senior adult status where a slip or fall could cause severe injury and or death I say pay attention, consider the risk and act accordingly.  If you miss and want to see what went on at ‘Church’ we video record all services and can get you a copy of our services for free.  Just call the church office and we will be glad to make you a copy on a DVD and even deliver it to you if you need.  We have deacons that are willing to serve and a staff that lives to serve the Lord and His people {you}….we will bring you your own copy!

Here’s hoping the weather holds off on our scheduled service times, but if not, we trust that you will feel no condemnation if you believe that coming would jeopardize your well being.

Hoping to see you Sunday: It’s great to be alive!

Bro. Wayne

The New Year Has Begun!

The New Year has begun and there are lots of things scheduled on our calendar for the year.  We start off Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m. for our first Wednesday fellowship of the year!  I hope you will bring something for yourself or family and come add it with our ‘stuff’ and share a time of fellowship before the evening service.  I specifically asked Carolyn to make a BIG pot of navy beans with lots of ham…I hope someone brings some corn bread!  If you cannot cook or are unable to for some reason come on anyway, there is always plenty to share.  Then Saturday is our regular scheduled Men’s Breakfast where we join in our talents and abilities under the leadership of Gary Jones and cook, eat and then clean up…It is always a great time of fellowship among the men and sons.  This Saturday we plan to take down and put away our Christmas décor for another year.  We will begin at 9:30; If you would like to share in our putting the buildings back in shape after the holidays….

I have been asked to officiate the gravesite service for Ruth Gourd Lewis this morning.  Ruth was on the pulpit committee that called our family here to serve at Faith Baptist Church in 1978.  I was twenty nine years old and she was 53.  I thought she was a really old person {as only a young person can think at that age} but she was full of life and her husband Clarence was a very quiet, demurred man who was a plumber.  I will never forget when he came to me and said: that he ‘would do anything I needed him to but please don’t ask me to be on any committees.’  Together they served there with me until Clarence died and Ruth until our family left there.  They were choice servants…just one story: We were in need of a vehicle for the ministry and our family. Ruth traveled for Wal Mart trading in cars every two years.  Clarence and Ruth saw our need and privately sold their car to us well below the book value, one of the nicest and prettiest cars we ever owned.  Our struggling family could never have afforded what they provided at that time in our life.  Together they became what God had promised me years before: ‘And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.’  Mark 10:29&30  Ruth began as my mother but soon turned into my sister…it wasn’t age it was understanding.  I hope I can do justice to her life in a few minutes at a gravesite…

I didn’t fully understand then nor I do now the ‘fullness of the riches of Christ’ but I have a ‘foretaste of Glory divine’ every time I meet with the Family of God….May His Name be Praised!    Bro. Wayne
