Genesis 35:1-20 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. (2) Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: (3) And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. (4) And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. (5) And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob. (6) So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him. (7) And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother. (8) But Deborah Rebekah’s nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth. (9) And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him. (10) And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. (11) And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; (12) And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. (13) And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him. (14) And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon. (15) And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel. (16) And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour. (17) And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. (18) And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin. (19) And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. (20) And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.

1 John 3:1-3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (2) Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. (3) And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

North to Alaska!

I am sitting in my ‘Study’ with empty book shelves and boxes of books with all kinds of memorabilia sitting on top of things screaming at me: ‘Put me where I belong!’ but I sit here writing to you because that is what I do on Newsletter morning! Some of you have asked about our move, well, we are almost out of the parsonage and into our home.  We have very little remaining in the house to be moved, but the garage is another thing!  Maybe a couple of weeks and we will be completely out…Thank you for allowing us to ‘camp out’ there these past few months while we found, renovated and established our home at the 940!

Labor Day picnic day was a good time at Rehoboth.  We had a great crowd, good food and fun and fellowship together.  Everyone had plenty to eat and the weather couldn’t have been much better!  My message Sunday morning was tainted with my emotions being somewhat out of control and a very difficult time keeping my mind into the message because every time I looked at the Ross family my heart heaved.

Tomorrow morning Jeanie, Stevie and the kids leave for Dallas, where they will board a direct flight to Anchorage, Alaska Thursday morning.  Mike will leave the same time by truck, driving the 4,000 miles there.

Jeanie is our oldest child and truly a gift from God {as are all our children}: Psalms 127:3&4Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.’ Today I will have lunch with Mike and Jeanie and send them forth as Arrows of the Lord to bless another church in a far away place…they have been such pillars here, I know God will use them greatly there.

There is no doubt that much of Rehoboth’s greatness is attributed to the godly people God has established here and yes, several of them are my children.

God has used them to encourage me and strengthen my hands: {Exodus 17:10-12} Every one of us are valuable to the Lord’s Work and He moves us in and out according to His will….it seems He is moving them on…..what a great service they had here!  Go with God Ross and Campbell families… I hope to visit you there in the future…if not, we will see you ‘in the air’!

God is good….All the Time.

Campers and Children!

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’

CALLING ALL CAMPERS!

There is still time for you to sign up to go!  We will be bringing our gear Sunday morning {pick up your list of what you will need by Wednesday} as we will be leaving Sunday evening after services for our destination at Oologah Lake.  We have campers and tents that will be set up and ready for us when we get there.  We have a full schedule of fun things to do.  The plans have been made and the schedule is set for a full time campout Sunday evening through Wednesday morning.  Along with Bible study and Preaching, we will be having lots of activities including fishing and rides on a Pontoon boat!  Frank and Sue Linton have volunteered their pontoon boat for us to have rides Sunday evening and Monday morning.  For some of you real fishermen…Bro. Frank plans to set out some jugs for catfish!  It should be a great time together as we learn some camping skills and play together in scheduled activities and of course the most important is having time scheduled for you to ‘get alone with God’ times.  Bro. Daniel will be the instructor for our Bible studies and I will be the ‘Preacher’ for the evening services scheduled for 7:00.  I am looking forward to a great time together!

If anyone would like to come ‘camp out’ with us you will be welcome!  Bring your tent or camper and let us know you are coming and we will welcome you for a day, a night or for the whole camp time.  Just call the church office: 918-342-6997 or my cell phone: 918-519-1204 and I will give you the camping area we have reserved…and you will need to add your reservation.  Or if you would like to come for the Monday or Tuesday evening preaching let us know before we leave and we will welcome you to eat with us before the preaching begins.

TURNING OUR ATTENTION TO HOME:

We are having some concerns being spoken about the confusion in the preaching times due to small children being disruptive.  I love the little children and appreciate the fact that they are with us; but sometimes their loud protests cause distractions that some are having a hard time concentrating and even hearing.

I plan to purchase a large screen T.V. for our parlor area for you that are having difficulty in training your child in proper deportment in Worship.  When they become disruptive, you can take your child to the parlor and still see and hear what is going on.  I hope to have it set up by next Sunday…God willing it will help us to ‘train up a child in the way he should go’ without causing others to stumble.

I once sat where you sit and had to deal with my children before I was in the pulpit…I know the frustration and how I wanted to hear the message…I hope this helps us all…

Jeremiah 16:1-21  The word of the LORD came also unto me, saying,  (2)  Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place.  (3)  For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land;  (4)  They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.  (5)  For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even lovingkindness and mercies.  (6)  Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:  (7)  Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.  (8)  Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink.  (9)  For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.  (10)  And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?  (11)  Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;  (12)  And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:  (13)  Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.  (14)  Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;  (15)  But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.  (16)  Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.  (17)  For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.  (18)  And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.  (19)  O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.  (20)  Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?  (21)  Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.

I Love You, Mom

This Sunday is Mother’s Day.  As a Pastor, I have been stressed on how to best handle this special day.  Everyone expects a sermon about mothers or women in particular and although, without doubt, my own mother, sister, wife, daughters and aunts have had tremendous effect in my life, I don’t know how to say it any better: You have touched my life in ways I cannot express!  Yet how do you really show the appreciation for women in our lives?

For years I tried to ‘give something’ to our mothers to show our love and appreciation for them but it seemed so hollow.  It did not matter how nice of a gift we gave, it excluded other mothers of equal worth and value.  Just because she had more children or grandchildren….you know?  Then there was the issue of women who never married or had children whose value is not gauged by giving birth: Paul, under inspiration of the Spirit wrote: ‘I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.’ 1 Corinthians 7:8 forever declaring the worth of one whose life is celibate….

Now laying aside the issue of recognition of mothers, it is a time of remembering and honoring our mom’s!  Everyone was born of woman!  And that is a fact.  The ideal mother in Scripture lays aside her desire for achievement and recognition for her offspring.  She lays down her life for her children.

In nature we all know that there is no fury like a bear robbed of her cubs: or the picture our Lord Jesus gave us of a hen with her brood: ‘O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!Matthew 23:37  No, there is no doubt; you didn’t dare touch one of those Keely kids…my mom would have ‘snatched your hair out’!

On a simpler note, I have watched Carolyn sacrifice her all for her brood.  They have always been her pride and joy, receiving all of her love, attention and prayers from birth.  She has made a wonderful grandmother and yes, great grandmother…. I took her by to hold little Melody Ross, our seventh great grandchild, just yesterday after church service and saw the love and admiration only a mother could have….

Happy Mother’s Day ladies.  Take Sunday off!  You deserve it!  And we love you for your gift to us….

Jeremiah 8:1-13  At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:  (2)  And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.  (3)  And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith the LORD of hosts.  (4)  Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?  (5)  Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.  (6)  I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.  (7)  Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.  (8)  How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.  (9)  The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?  (10)  Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.  (11)  For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.  (12)  Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.  (13)  I will surely consume them, saith the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.

We’ll Work Till Jesus Comes….We’ll Work Till Jesus Comes!

The work of the church continues to move on! From the worship and praise to our God {Sunday morning included a heavenly Harp with two angelic voices added} to take us into worship of our Lord! To the study of God’s Word in our Bible study time {we still call it Sunday school, not ‘small groups’} to the proclamation of God’s Word through the preaching services, yes, plural, as we actually have two complete services each Sunday! To an amazing film presentations defending the Biblical stand on Creation: {Kent Hovind} for our adults and youth while the children are learning ‘Hymnology’.
We are involved in a continual movement to bring Glory to God every day as the church facilities are open for use almost every day and are available to the Church family anytime it is needed.
What a joy to be involved with a people whose purpose is to fellowship together in worship to God and to proclaim His message of Salvation to our community here and to the world as we sponsor world missions as well as local mission endeavors with our tithes and offerings.
For you who are reading these words and have set yourself on the shelf of non use, I call upon you to become involved again! There are a multitude of things you can do to help. You can work with children in the nursery, be involved with older children and youth, become part of a Bible Study class where you can learn God’s Word and be a participant where your questions and ideas can create a better learning atmosphere in our Sunday school classes.
If you have a voice to sing, there is the choir you can express to your heart’s desire your personal praise or if you play musical instruments there is a place for you to pick up your instrument and share God’s gift with us!!
Your talent level really doesn’t matter as there are so many things you can do to serve the Lord…again from cleaning the widows in classrooms to selecting a classroom to paint, replace carpet, or just a thorough cleaning!
The Church Library is in need of a makeover with removal of non biblical books and old VCR tapes…Kitchen?! Did I mention the kitchen? Yep remodel, cleaning, restructure? What more can I say? If any of these touch your nerve of service, call the church office 918-342-6997 and tell Cindy what you would like to do and we will do our best to ‘plug you in’ so you too can be part of what God is doing at 2450 King Rd. and around the world.
For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.’
Hebrews 6:10

It is a joy to serve the Living God!

Camp Time 2015!

Next Sunday evening we will host another Children’s/Youth camp! So far there are twenty plus signed up with six sponsors ready to spend Sunday evening through Friday morning around the church facilities with a couple of excursions planned. Charlie Atzbach and Mary Sanders are planning, scheduling and preparing meals for the week that I know will be delicious and nutritious! Todd Isom is planning our recreation and swim times, Tony Atzbach is planning and leading our music for the week, Daniel Keely is leading our Bible Studies in the morning and preaching each evening and I have prepared Character Studies for the afternoon devotions. It should be quite a time of making a deeper commitment of our lives and sharing in times of Bible Study mixed with fun, food, fellowship and recreation. Levi Keely has volunteered to come set up our sound and electronics that we will need for the week and when he is off he will help Todd with the recreation. I do believe we have planned a great time for all who will be with us.
It is my plan and desire that this camp time won’t just be a camp for fun, but it will be a time of dedication and soul searching to prepare for the times in which we live. If your child {completed fourth grade} through youth {completed senior high} has not yet decided, I can assure you it will be a well planned and executed camp. We begin with a campers meeting Wednesday evening after service where we will hand out schedules and manifest of items needed and other items to be left at home…then Sunday afternoon July 12 at 4:30 we will meet with our ‘stuff’ and begin our camp time together!
Sunday evening and Wednesday evening we will welcome our church family into our camp schedule at the regular times where you will have opportunity to taste a little of our camp!
God has certainly blessed the work of Rehoboth! I praise His Name for what He is doing in our midst. The proclamation of God’s Word continues without hindrance and we are seeing people drawn closer to Him!
It is obvious that the Powers of this world {Ephesians 6:12} are doing everything they can to stymie the Word of God, but when we, His People, stand for righteousness sake and continue to follow Him, well, as Jesus said: The Gates of Hell can not stand! ‘And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ Matthew 16:18
Looking forward to our Men’s Breakfast Saturday morning 8:00!

Hebrews 12:5-13  And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:  (6)  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.  (7)  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?  (8)  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.  (9)  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?  (10)  For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.  (11)  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.  (12) Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;  (13)  And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
