Matthew 2:1-12 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. (3) When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. (4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. (5) And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, (6) And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. (7) Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. (8) And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. (9) When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. (10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. (11) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. (12) And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

It’s Christmas Time!

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.’ Titus 2:11-14

I cannot remember a Christmas service that I enjoyed any more than this past Sunday!  From the opening sound of the trumpets playing to the hand bell choir to the piano special; the harp and guitar ensemble then the piano and violin special…well I thought it couldn’t get any better!  Then Sunday evening the Sanctuary Choir preformed their cantata of ‘One Small Child’ and topped the charts!  It was truly amazing to see all of the talent on display offering our worship to the King of Kings in the season we celebrate His birth!  What a day….!

One of the most difficult tasks handed to me over the years has been to bring an appropriate message after a choir special or a children’s program…this year the task fell on Daniel.  He stepped up after a wonderful ministry to our souls by the choir and opened the Book of Hebrews and preached to us Jesus!  What a fine message it was; taking us right to the Throne of God where our Lord Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of God…waiting till His enemies be made his footstool.  What a message and what a fine way to close our pre-Christmas service!

Thank you to all who ministered to us Sunday!

If you missed, you can go to our web page: www.roomforus.com and go to the sermons and hear for yourself the messages that were delivered Sunday morning and Sunday evening 12/18/16.  Just click on the date and service time and you can hear for yourself the uplifting messages from God’s Word…what a day we live in!  What a Mighty God we serve!

Wednesday evening our children will be bringing us the Christmas story by their program.  You won’t want to miss!  The program will begin at 6:00 p.m.  It is always a joy to see our children acting out the wonder of Christmas.

The season is here, the weather has been frightful, the snow came….One day Jesus Himself will come!  That is our Blessed Hope:

Fall and Winter: Christmas is on its Way!

You can hear it in the rustle of the leaves. You can almost feel the stirring of the season…even without the usual cold and rainy days of fall, it is still here. The official date was September 23 this year so it has been a full month ago yet, the usual rains have not come with none predicted until later this week. I noticed in the bulletin Sunday that we only have eight practices left for the youth and children’s choir to prepare for their Christmas program…do you realize that Christmas is only 65 days away?! Time keeps moving on!
Our fall youth camp/retreat was a real treat for us all. I truly enjoyed being with our youth and sponsors, spending time with them in fun, games and instruction in God’s Word. Tulakogee Camp was really a good place to go and get away for a couple of days to reset our thinking. I cannot tell you how blessed I was to just sit and listen as they played musical instruments and sang songs about the Christian life and He who made it possible…Jesus! No doubt they blessed me more than they could know.
Sunday also saw the return of several families who went to a ‘Family Camp’ down in Texas. They took a full week and camped out in tents and campers to gather around God’s Word and fellowship with their families together. It is something I have always wanted to do; I just never organized one or took time to be involved in one. I truly wish I had. Welcome home campers!
We plan to begin Choir practice this coming Sunday evening after services. Bob Allen has agreed to work with you who are interested in preparing a Cantata for Christmas! It will be his first time for such a venture, although he has been involved in many choirs over the years. If you have an interest in being in our choir, it will start up after a six month hiatus {while the auditorium was under construction}. Please pray about your participation and plan to be there to make your voice heard {along with all others} who want to glorify God through song! Thank you Bro. Bob for being willing to accept this task to work with those interested.
One last thought before I get ready to meet my day… Faithfulness is so important in ever facet of life. No one wants a light switch that works only sometimes, no one wants a car that is not dependable…we all desire our children to be faithful in the deportment of the responsibilities we give them… Our Father in Heaven too desires us to be faithful to Him: ‘Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.’
1 Corinthians 4:1&2
And that is the bottom line. Lord, teach me to remain faithful… Bro. Wayne

A Christmas Message

Luke 2:1-11 “And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
This most familiar story gives the account of the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We have heard it proclaimed from the pulpit to the funny papers via Peanuts where Linus quotes these verses. Yet these familiar words mean nothing to this world unto whom it was sent, unless they identify themselves with Jesus Christ through His death, burial and resurrection, for the birth of Christ has meaning of “peace on earth” only to those who have experienced the “peace that passeth understanding” that comes through a personal relationship that is established by believing on Him. Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:16-18 Now, if you just look around you at this season of the year, you will plainly see that with all of the decorations of homes and businesses many people proclaim to know Him, and most of these would heartily say that they believe in Jesus. The problem with that is that most of these people believe in Jesus like I believe in George Washington. George Washington was a good man, but my belief in him, as an historical person has made no difference in my life or living. On the other hand, when I “trusted” Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, He came into my life and I became His dwelling place {I Corinthians 3:16}.
Most people believe in Jesus Christ without ever trusting Him for their eternal salvation. That is a tragedy. They believe in Him but fail to trust Him to keep them. As a consequence, they spend most of their lives hoping that they will one day live in Heaven, doing good deeds as a hedge against their sins. The truth is, when Jesus moves in, He seals you unto the day of redemption: Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.” It is at this point your salvation is decided for eternity.
You see, because Jesus came into the world, through faith in His name, I will enter into His world when He calls for me, be it through death or when He gloriously returns.
This Christmas Season, consider for yourself: God became a man that He might redeem us to Himself. That is the reason for the season! “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” II Corinthians 5:19&21
What you do concerning Jesus will affect you for eternity…Give your life to Him!
Merry Christmas to you! Bro. Wayne

Galatians 4:1-9
Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Weather!

We have had two wild weather weekends in the past three weeks! I was pleasantly surprised both weeks as we had far better attendance than I had expected. It would appear that we are in for a long hard winter! I have already gone through three ricks of wood and we still have three months of winter left. Snow and ice are beautiful but hazardous to drive in {of course it’s always the other guy we are concerned about} but the truth is one slip can cost more than it’s worth to be in the weather. We have been very fortunate as the ice storm could have caused much more destruction….
NOW FOR MY PURPOSE IN WRITING THESE THOUGHTS:
A long time ago I set a standard for inclement weather for the church I pastor: If I can make it on any service, I will be here, unless otherwise stated. If I make it then Matthew 18:20 goes into effect: ‘For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.’
There is no reason people should be compelled to risk life or limb to attend the worship service, but the truth is MOST of us come and go as we please anyway, regardless of the road conditions. Churches all over Northeast Oklahoma dismiss services and there is no shame to anyone concerned about the driving conditions. As a matter of fact, the older I get, the more concerned I am concerning taking a fall!
Well, you get my position. For us here at Rehoboth Baptist Church, we will trust the Lord and be as faithful as possible without making anyone feel less spiritual because the Lord led them to stay in. You can count on one thing: If I can make it here and you come, we will worship Him together and if you don’t make it I promise not to call you a backslider! The attendance for the past three weeks has been astounding considering the hype concerning the weather, I appreciate you looking and listening then making your own decision on attending services. Personally I am glad Carolyn and I made it {and without incident}…it was such a blessing! The children’s program last week was fun as the children and youth together portrayed the birth of Christ and Sunday evening the Sanctuary Choir outdid themselves…a special thank you to all involved…Betty you are amazing! And Bro. Gary…you were a great narrator! Thanks Bro. James for your tenacity and coming through. Hope to see some of you Tuesday evening at 6:00 for the candle light service….Merry Christmas to you all…..

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Sunday was a wonderful time! With a record Sunday school attendance of 159 and a full house for worship….well it was a blessed time! I was glad the Osteen family joined in with us to serve the Lord and look forward to great times of service with them!
Sunday evening our very own Joey Shann came with the ‘Coyote Hill Band’ a bluegrass band he has joined in with and they performed a concert of Gospel music with some ‘hoe down’ instrumental specials. Joey even led out singing ‘There’s Power in the Blood’ and did a super job!!! I think it is the first time I have heard him speak two full sentences in a row!!! Man did it help him come out of his shell… He played the banjo as well as any banjo player I have heard. Thanks Joey for sharing your God given talent with us.
The weather change has come, it is getting dark early and the holidays are upon us. I think Andy Williams put it best in his song: ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year’. Indeed it is. Our children are practicing for a Christmas program and our adult choir preparing for their Christmas special, well, in the music, it couldn’t be any better! I look forward to the handbell choir playing Christmas songs each week!
Hey, it is wonderful serving our Lord. Why not come serve Him with us?!
