Matthew 2:1-12 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. (3) When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. (4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. (5) And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, (6) And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. (7) Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. (8) And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. (9) When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. (10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. (11) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. (12) And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

A Sign that Something is Up

Our time Sunday was blessed as the Lord anointed the services. Although we didn’t see any visible results for the week or Sunday, I know God was speaking and moving in our midst. I know God is at work in and around us and that excites me; yet know this: When God is at work, the devil is prowling around: ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:’ 1 Peter 5:8
Our Trustees recommended we look into a replacement for our deteriorating sign and this past Wednesday evening in our monthly business meeting we voted to purchase a new LED sign that was displayed Sunday July 19 and again Wednesday evening July 22. The spirit of the church was displayed in the agreeable spirit and general consensus of the church family as we voted unanimously to purchase the new sign.
This new sign will provide a way for us to display a new scripture every day for those who travel King Road. It is exciting to me at the prospect of all who read God’s Word and what the results will be! Remember: Isaiah 55:10&11 ‘For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.’ The sign will be programmable from a laptop computer that will not only display the time and temperature, but pictures and graphics, as well as a continual text of Scriptures! If that weren’t enough, the sign has speakers that will play music from our services! I can hardly wait to hear the bells of Christmas playing as we come to the church this late fall and winter! It will also have a permanent lighted sign that will display Rehoboth Baptist Church with our address and phone number. We should see the sign installed during the middle part of August.
This Saturday August 1 is our Men’s Breakfast. It is a time when we come together and share in a meal and message as well as just a fine time together. I hope you men and boys will come early to help in our cooking and stay a few minutes after to clean up…while in-between is the finest breakfast that can be found!
If you haven’t been, or it’s been awhile since you came, why not make plans to join us? I’m looking forward to seeing you Wednesday…..Bro. Wayne

A Christmas Message

Luke 2:1-11 “And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
This most familiar story gives the account of the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We have heard it proclaimed from the pulpit to the funny papers via Peanuts where Linus quotes these verses. Yet these familiar words mean nothing to this world unto whom it was sent, unless they identify themselves with Jesus Christ through His death, burial and resurrection, for the birth of Christ has meaning of “peace on earth” only to those who have experienced the “peace that passeth understanding” that comes through a personal relationship that is established by believing on Him. Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:16-18 Now, if you just look around you at this season of the year, you will plainly see that with all of the decorations of homes and businesses many people proclaim to know Him, and most of these would heartily say that they believe in Jesus. The problem with that is that most of these people believe in Jesus like I believe in George Washington. George Washington was a good man, but my belief in him, as an historical person has made no difference in my life or living. On the other hand, when I “trusted” Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, He came into my life and I became His dwelling place {I Corinthians 3:16}.
Most people believe in Jesus Christ without ever trusting Him for their eternal salvation. That is a tragedy. They believe in Him but fail to trust Him to keep them. As a consequence, they spend most of their lives hoping that they will one day live in Heaven, doing good deeds as a hedge against their sins. The truth is, when Jesus moves in, He seals you unto the day of redemption: Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.” It is at this point your salvation is decided for eternity.
You see, because Jesus came into the world, through faith in His name, I will enter into His world when He calls for me, be it through death or when He gloriously returns.
This Christmas Season, consider for yourself: God became a man that He might redeem us to Himself. That is the reason for the season! “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” II Corinthians 5:19&21
What you do concerning Jesus will affect you for eternity…Give your life to Him!
Merry Christmas to you! Bro. Wayne
