A Tree Planted by Rivers of Water

What a delightful Sunday morning! The weather was crisp and beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky and the slightest breeze. Do I ever love fall! We opened the windows and doors to help air out and cool the buildings and saved money on the air conditioner bill! It was good to be in God’s house with you His people!
I read Psalm 1 during the opening of our morning service and spoke about verse three: ‘And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.’ There is a pecan tree down by our creek that is probably seventy five feet tall. It has been a very healthy tree not more than fifty feet from Cat creek on our property. About three years ago an infestation of Beaver took over our creek and we lost numerous small trees and a few larger ones. One night the beavers decided to take down that pecan tree and chewed the bark off of two thirds of the circumference of the tree…it has had devastating effects. The tree has survived so far, but is continuing to deteriorate. No pecans on it, thin leaves and dead limbs are falling off. I likened this tree to some of God’s towering trees… ‘planted by the rivers of water
There are many enemies of the pecan tree…some unseen like the pecan borers. Other enemies are visible like the beavers. I have learned from living that to be healthy is a blessing and to keep healthy takes much labor and watching. I warned us all Sunday morning to watch out for critters that attack with the single purpose of taking us down. That is what I believe God meant when He added Hebrews 13:17 to His Word: ‘Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.’ I have recommitted my task of watching as your pastor. I hope that my ‘watching for your souls’ will make me a better pastor and your lives in Christ more secure.
I believe God’s Word is true. I believe God makes the difference in those of us who serve Him when we hear and obey His commands. Thank you for allowing me into your home and heart.

Luke 6:38-49  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.  (39)  And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?  (40)  The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.  (41)  And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?  (42)  Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.  (43)  For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  (44)  For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.  (45)  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.  (46)  And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?  (47)  Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:  (48)  He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.  (49)  But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
